Presented by John McGuigan & Chris Cobain
Friday Soul Show is a successor to previous speciality Soul Music
programmes which have aired on Bute FM and Radio Bute since 2010
and now continue happily with Bute Island Radio.
The show is designed to appeal to lovers of all aspects of Soul,
ranging from late 50’s Doo-Wop, to mainstream classics and more
contemporary Lounge, Club, and Dance music.
Tracks from all the major labels, Chess, Motown,
Atlantic, and Philadelphia International sit with the myriad of
smaller lesser known labels such as “Anna Records”, “Deram”, “Brunswick”, and a whole host of innumerable others.
John McGuigan (aka Magoo), Has garnered a knowledge and love of
Soul going back to the 60’s, with a particular focus on some of the
great male vocalists, like for example, Lou Rawls, Lamont Dozier,
Levi Stubbs, and Teddy Pendergrass, as well as having an equally
strong affinity with the dance music scene which he experienced
sthrough his time pent away from Bute working in London,
Manchester, and Edinburgh throughout the 70’s.
Co-presenter Chris Cobain left school in Rothesay in 1976 and
immediately became involved in the local music scene as a partner in
a mobile disco, playing at various clubs, functions, and local
under 18 events, requiring a varied playlist catering for all-tastes.
It was through meeting McGuigan at this time that he caught the
Soul Music bug, and has loved it ever since.
The Friday Soul Show is broadcast each week between 6pm and 8pm
on 96.5 fm and streams all around the world via the internet at
John McGuigan also co-hosts The Blair & Magoo Drivetime Show on
Bute Island Radio each Wednesday from 6pm-8pm, whilst
Chris Cobain shares Breakfast Show Duties with Linda Fraser
each Saturday morning from 8-10am.
